Sarah Wharton
Founder and Executive Director
Sarah has always loved cooking, teaching, and helping the planet, and she combined all three when she founded Little Chefs, Big Change. With a masters from Cornell and years of experience managing after-school cooking programs, Sarah knows how to make healthy eating fun and accessible for kids. Sarah started teaching cooking classes in 2015, inspiring students and families to try new foods and make veggies taste delicious. Over the years, Sarah has compiled many kid-approved recipes and has developed the ability to teach kids how to cook pretty much anywhere- a school kitchen, a classroom, a cafeteria, outside…give her an electrical outlet and a group of kids, and dinner will be ready an hour later! At home, her favorite taste-testers are her kids Emory and Simon and her partner Tom.

And many, many dedicated volunteers!
Our incredible volunteers are the heart of Little Chefs, Big Change. They are essential to safely running our cooking classes, providing the adult support needed to ensure every session is fun, engaging, and impactful. But their contributions go beyond supervision—they help create a sense of community, inspire kids to try new things, and learn valuable leadership, teaching and cooking skills along the way.
Since January 2025, over 300 individual volunteers contributed 1000+ hours of service during after-school cooking classes. Their dedication saves us thousands in personnel costs, allowing us to direct even more resources toward providing healthy food and education to kids and families.
We couldn’t do this work without them—thank you to the many hands that make every class a success!

Will Savage
Interim Board Chair
Communities Account Executive, XfinityFavorite Memory with LCBC:
“One of my favorite moments has always been seeing the kids’ faces light up when they realize that beans can make really good brownies. You can see the look of confusion as their mind tries to understand how it could be possible. It's beans, but it still tastes good.I especially love seeing the Little Chefs building confidence and independence as they work with their peers to create a meal that they all get to enjoy together. Little Chef's Big Change is empowering kids for the future, and I'm honored to be a part of it.”

Favorite Memory with LCBC:
“My favorite memory this year was attending one of our cooking classes at the Wesley House along with our corporate sponsor Bush’s Beans. I wholeheartedly love attending our classes as they are the heartbeat of LCBC. I love when I get the opportunity to experience working with the children who are engaging, enjoying, expanding, and eating healthy, or seeing firsthand the positive impact of this program. The children working in teams and bonding to produce their portion of the common goal of the healthy meal and at the end, enjoying their output.I am so elated to be a small part of such a phenomenal team and look forward to another year improving our community one child at a time!”

Carolyn Marguet
Vice Chair of Board Governance
Director of Customer Success and Support, Highland Electric FleetsFavorite Memory With LCBC:
“I’ve had the joy of serving on the board since January 2024, and it has been an incredible experience watching this program create confidence, creativity, and community one meal at a time. One of my favorite things about LCBC is seeing how proud the kids are of what they cook. It’s not just about enjoying the food themselves—they can’t wait to share it. They eagerly ask to bring plates to their teachers, parents, and friends and they beam with excitement as they show off what they’ve made. That instinct to nourish and care for others is so special, and it speaks to the heart of this program.
Little Chefs, Big Change is empowering kids far beyond the kitchen, and I’m thrilled to play a small part in helping this incredible work grow.”
